TRAVELLING - VIENNA TO ROME
Today we were up with the sparrows to catch our train to Innsbruck at 6:36. We arrived at Vienna's train station only to find that our train had been cancelled due to the flooding. There was no way we could get to Salzburg for at least a week so we asked how else we could get to Rome and was given a new timetable where we had to leave from the other main train station, so we hurried back on to a train and travelled there and jumped in line to book our tickets.
There were people everywhere trying to change their tickets. We were very lucky to get there when we did and grabbed the last three available seats. We waited on the train platform getting more and more concerned with the number of people milling around. The train pulled in and the girls and I jumped on board and hurried to find extra seats for Grandad and Pasqual. We shouldn't have worried as there were plenty of seats available.
When we arrived in Villach we had to rush outside and board a bus that would take us to Venice. We made it, just, climbed aboard and settled down for a four hour bus drive. We were informed that it was unlikely that we would make it to Venice in time for our connecting train trip, but the driver was a whizz and we made it with about ten minutes to spare.
Last train took us all the way into Rome. Along the way we spent the time talking to a couple from Texas who had spent time living in Australia. It was nice to speak to someone who speaks English without having to try to decipher what is being said. We arrived in Rome at 8:15pm. Been a long day and we were all exhausted, we travelled to the hotel by taxi with a really nice driver who made fun of us and our lack of Italian and tried to teach us some words. It was fun.
So we have arrived in our last country of our epic adventure. It's sad in a way to think that in a month's time we will be heading home and back to the real world. We have had an awesome time so far. Angelique as you can imagine is very excited that her birthday is only a matter or days away now.
