ITALY - DAY 12
We left Venice and headed for Verona. We got to see Juliet's balcony and a statue of her. Her tomb was somewhere there as well but we didn't know where. I wonder if there really was a Romeo and if so, where is he buried. There is no mention of him when you are in Verona. The place is really quite pretty. You can't get into the city so we had to park the coach and walk along the city wall into the old part of the city.
After leaving Verona we continued heading towards the Italian Lakes. We stopped in Lake Como where over half the bus went on an excursion around the lake costing 36 euros, where as we went on a boat ride around the lake for 5 euros. It was brilliant. We saw a building that was used in Ocean's 11, 12 or 13. Not sure which movie, we weren't really sure which building but hey, it's nice to pretend we knew. George Clooney supposedly has a house along the lake somewhere.
Went crossed the border into Switzerland for several hours to the pretty lake side report town of Lugano. We tried not to spend any money there as everything is in Swiss Francs and even though they take euros, they give change in francs. While I was there the rash I had developed several days earlier from using a scarf I purchased from a street vendor got really bad and I couldn't take it any more so I found an Apoteke and got some tablets to help.
We then travelled back over the border into Italy and continued towards Milan. We discovered that we weren't staying in Milan or even in the outskirts. In fact we stayed in a quaint hotel, over an hours drive on the freeway from Milan. This tour has really put us in some interesting, remote places. It certainly makes it hard to find cheap food or to do your own thing when you are miles from anywhere.
