ITALY - DAY 20

We slept in today, hooray! After breakfast we decided to walk into Amalfi, a fifteen minute walk from Atrani. This was wonderful. It was overcast so it wasn't too hot and in no time at all we were in Amalfi.

We wandered down the beach street looking at this and that, until Pasqual decided that we should charter a small boat to take us for a ride to the Emerald Grotto. It was fabulous. We had the boat to ourselves. The boat driver pointed out Sophie Loren's house. Very impressive. It's right on a point. She even has her own castle ruins.

We then were dropped to the Grotto and we entered the cave, hopped aboard the boat and were rowed through the cave. It was beautiful. I had a slight mishap getting back onto the boat. My foot slipped off the bench and I landed with the second toe bent underneath. It is now a lovely shade of purple, double its normal size and very painful to walk on. Lucky me. The boat driver very kindly dropped us back into the bay of Atrani and we slowly walked up the 400+ steps to the villa. It was into the pool to cool off and help my poor toe.
