Today we woke up and decided to rent a moped and drive to Kep which is about 30min drive away.
Kep is similar to Kampot but alot more quiet, they mainly do Crab fishing and have a big crab market there. There's also a beach but nobody was on it when we was there so we decided against sunbathing that day.
As we were driving round we noticed lots of deserted houses, well more like mansions. This was because during the Khmer Rouge years, much of Kep's French colonial era mansions and villas were destroyed. The locals now think they are haunted so won't live in them!
Along the ocean there are large random statues, like a naked woman and a giant crab!!
After a few hours we decided to head back. Whilst riding back we got stuck behind a couple of cars which were turning left into a field.
As i stopped to let them turn i heard some breaks screeching and then a motorbike fly past (they were obviously trying to overtake the slow moving traffic and were travelling at least 50mph) smashing straight into the side of the car!
There were 3 kids on the bike -no older than 14- and only the driver had a helmet on. Luckily, and to our surprise, they all got up and only one of them seemed to be in pain, but thankfully was moving. It really shook me and Beth up and ruined our day a bit.
Also, to add to our bad day, we got a flat tyre on the way back about 5km from Kampot. Luckily we didn't have to walk too far before we came to a repair shop who fixed it for us.
Once back in Kampot we went for some food and then gave the moped back.
Heading to Vietnam tomorrow, excited but sad to leave Cambodia, really love this country!
