Sadly we have nearly come to the end of our South-East Asia part of of the trip.
We arrived in Singapore after a 5 hour bus journey from Melaka. Immagration was alot smoother than it was when we went into Malaysia.
Our first impression of Singapore was EXPENSIVE (compared to the rest of Asia) but very clean and the double of Hong Kong.
We found a hostel called Backpackers Cozy Corner, and checked into the cheapest room available which was $45 Singapore dollars (roughly £20). But you don't get alot for money (shared bathroom, rooms a bit shabby and could do with a lick of paint,no wifi)
We are in the Bugis area which has lots of shopping centres that are all freezing as they have the aircon on full blast. If we're cold the locals must be !
The police are very strict in Singapore and you can't smoke in any public area, if you do and get caught you can get a $200 fine. Littering comes with hefty fines and also jay-walking is prohibited(signs are everywhere). You have to cross at designated crossings....complete opposite to everywhere else in Asia we have visited.
After walking around the shopping mall Beth got chatting to a hair dresser and ended up getting her hair done. They did a really good job and she is happy with it. Whilst Beth was being pampered I sat in McDonalds nursing a coke so i could use the free WiFi!!
Later we went for some dinner and then had a walk, its a very busy city and everybody seems to be in a rush.
The next day after weeks of anticipation we were finally going to the Singapore Zoo which (and i quote) is one of 'The Worlds Best' zoo's.
It certainly lived up to the hype it was amazing...specially after the crap start to the day (woke up to rain and thunder and missed our bus due to the driver...don't ask)
It has open zoo concept which means the animals are kept in spacious enclosures and the only thing separating them from us was a moat. So basically most animals weren't in cages, apart from the fast and very dangerous ones such as snakes.
Our favourites were 'Carlos' the Sea-Lion, the little Meerkats, the swimming hippo (actually it doesn't swim it tip-toes) and all the different types of monkeys (can watch them for hours).
We watch a few of the Zoos shows like the Splash show and Elephant show, both were really good. All the animals seem really happy and even seem to be showing off!!
The only animal i felt sorry for was the Polar bear, definatly too hot for him here!! But he had an air-con room which is more than we can afford at the moment...
After 5/6 hours wondering round the Zoo we headed back tired with aching legs. Worth it though....
Our last day in Singapore we spent walking round the many shopping malls and went to visit the largest fountain in the world. It was a bit disappointing haha
We also went to the largest city view wheel (just like the london eye) in the world, its called the Singapore Eye. But it was really expensive so we opted for the ground level view!!!
We are now waiting to board our flight to Darwin.....
