Argh! I just wrote this whole blog and the computer crashed !! So here i go again....
Kampot is a small fishing village just outside of Sihanoukville. Its really chilled out here.
Theres a National Park called Bokor but most of it is closed at the moment as its having work done on it (building a dam and a resort!) so its not safe for trekking
So we did some trekking in the part that was open. It was a really tiring day as we had push bikes and biked for an hour to the National Park, then went trekking for three hours. After working up an appetite we stopped for some lunch which was included in the price. It consisted of rice, chicken blood and chicken bones. Beth had a skull and Dom had a foot...yummy. Then we biked a little bit further , then thankfully got a beer and jumped on a boat back to Kampot !!
I thought i would be aching today but im not ! I must be getting fitter! (is that even a word?)
On the way to do the trek, our guide, Ki, took me, Dom and Dan (Irish guy) to the local market
I can confidentally say that it was the most disgusting thing i have ever seen in real life...
The smell was overwhelming in the meat and fish section. The isles were all so small you had to queue to get through
You could buy any kind of meat. It was all hung up with flies crawling all over it. There was pigs head, pigs ears, other parts of pig, other parts of other animals...
Oh and if ever you want a really fresh chicken, this is your place... The chickens and ducks are all in a line waiting to be...executed... with their little legs tied together so they couldn't escape
You chose the best bird, they'll do the rest...right in front of you! Nice
I wasn't impressed
It also turned out that our guide had lost his father and two brothers during the Khmer regime so he was glad about the trial starting (17th February) Very sad :-(
After a hard day Dom said he would treat me to chocolate cake and ice cream.... We had it a few nights before at a guesthouse / restaurant called Blissfull (and it lived up to its name)
Mum, you ask if i'm eating properly ! I don't think i have ever eaten this much in my life
So, as we knew what dessert we were having before wed chosen the main course, Dom ordered the food and said to the waiter (and i quote) "..also, can i order the chocolate cake and ice cream for dessert"
Minutes later, the waiter brought over the food....the dessert....
We both looked at the food, at each other, then dom said "err...could we maybe have that AFTER the main course?"
The waiter didnt even smile he just looked a bit put out and took the cake back to the kitchen... I wouldnt mind, but he wasnt Khmer, he was Western, Danish i think...
To be honest, i would have happily eaten the chocolate cake for as a starter.... hehe Delicious
At 12.30am today, Die Hard 2 was on Star Movies followed by the horror film Wolf Creek.. (Its a novelty to us having a television in our room) but we were tired and didnt want to stay up late so went to sleep at about 10pm and Dom set his alarm for 12.30am!!
I don t know if you know, but the film Wolf Creek is about 3 TRAVELLERS BACKPACKING ACROSS AUSTRALIA (sound familiar) ... they get tortured and killed in the outback.. and sorry mum, but its actually based on a true story... So not the best film to watch before we go to Australia in May.huh?.....
Today we rented a moped and drove for 45mins to the next town called Kep....
