I guess it's about time I posted another blog. First of all, Happy Birthday Sarah! I hope that it was wonderful. Just about all of the guys from the P&0 are starting up a footy team. Footy is Australian rules football, and it is a blast. It is kind of a mix of football, soccer, and rugby. The goal is to kick the ball through the goal posts down on one end of the field. There are two ways of passing the ball to your teammates. You can hit the ball (basically punching it to a teammate) or kick it (like a mini punt). If you hit it to somebody, the other team can tackle the person with the ball. If you kick it to a teammate and he catches it, he cannot be tackled unless he runs forward with the ball. The game is really fast paced and involves a lot of running. We have had two team practices, and it is a huge workout. It is really fun to be a part of a team sport again because I haven't played anything intense since hockey. Later on in the semester we will play against one or two other teams. Yesterday the whole group went to a footy match between Fremantle and Perth. The stadium was huge and the game was heaps of fun (everybody here says heaps instead of tons or lots). We left about 5 minutes early because freo was down by about 20 points. I heard later that night that freo actually won! How frustrating is that. A huge comeback, and we missed it. Whatever, that was just preseason. It'll be great to see a regular season game later on in the semester. Today I put in a few hours at the library in preparation for my first 3000 word research paper. Fun fun fun. I'll try and pull some footy pics together and post them when they hit facebook. For now though, just keep enjoying Minnesota winter.
