...Keeping fit. Night Market. Aboriginal Art: Miss Kooladoo. PJ O'Briens...
For the past few days I've been on a bit of a health kick and keep fit frenzy. A healthy lifestyle is really encouraged here in Australia and they provide free facilities to the community to make it accessible for everyone. Along the Esplanade they have keep fit points where you can do sit ups, chin ups, etc as stop off points on your run.
I've also participated in a couple of the free exercise classes they offer at the Lagoon. I got up bright and early on Saturday morning to take part in the water aerobics class and on Monday afternoon took part in a circuit around the Marina and Esplanade.
Being surrounded by the amazing views just makes exercise easier as well as the sunshine and clean sea air. Whilst stopping off to do some tricep dips during an early morning jog I just had to pause for a moment and absorb the scenery; infront of me I had the gorgeous ocean surrounded by lush green mountains whilst the sun teased my skin. As it was early hardly anyone else was around and I could enjoy a tranquil moment appreciating everything around me and feeling very lucky that I'm travelling.
Other than working out lots over the past few days I've also booked my scuba diving course, been sunning myself by the Lagoon, visited the night market and an Aboriginal Art shop. The pieces there were spectacular and had so much energy in them, very spiritual. I also found out the tribal name for Dove which is Kooladoo... Kelly Kooladoo has a certain ring to it :o)
I also went out to Cairn's Irish bar PJ O'Briens to celebrate the birthday of one of the lads from Cork I met at the backpackers. Its a pretty cool place with a live band playing classic old songs like Roxy Music as well as there being a DJ. The atmosphere was really good in there and everyone was having a really good laugh. They also had a Coyote Ugly dance competition that the lads entered me in to try and win a $120 bar tab. I got into the final and had the support of the workers but unfortunately didn't know enough of the crowd to win, but it was a pretty good laugh.
