...Forts Walk. Wild Koalas. Sea Kayaking. Bungalow Bay Koala Village Sanctuary...
Magnetic Island was lovely with wonderful scenery, beautiful beaches and lots of wildlife. I spent my time going on lots of walks to the various beaches and ventured up to the old Forts on the Island. The Forts walk was ace as I got to see my first wild Koala Bear and had some amazing views of the Island at the top. Imagining what it was like to be up in the Forts during World War II made you appreciate how isolated the islanders were and how unsettling life during that time would have been.
I also went on a sunset sea kayaking tour around Horsehoe Bay. Really enjoyed paddling along on the ocean, watching turtles popping up on the surface and learning more about the Island. When the sunset some bubbly was cracked open and I got to enjoy a glass of fizz out at sea.
One of the highlights of the trip had to be the Bungalow Bay Koala Village Sanctuary. Our guide made the tour as he was unbelievable enthusiastic about the animals and the surrounding environment. It was brilliant as it was quite an informal, relaxed and intimate exploration of the sanctuary and I got the chance to learn lots about the native animals of Australia and got to hold a few. The little baby croc was gorgeous with a wonderfully soft underbelly and the lizards and python were really cool. The cockatoos were lovely and after my childhood fascination with parrots its brilliant to be surrounded by the all the time (even in the cities).
Really enjoyed my time on the Island and it was lovely to spend a couple of days there in the sunshine.
