Didier Moutia's Travels
Today is Dad's day for blogging.
We had a slow start to the day. We have had some pretty early mornings so it was great to sleep in despite the kids doing their best to make sure it was not for too long!
Ayers Rock Resort has this cool Town Square with lots of shops, decent coffee and restaurants. There is a coffee shop and restaurant that are both used as hospitality training schools that are both outstanding. We had breakfast at Kulata, one of these training academies. It was great to have a decent and simple breakfast that has not been tampered with or overcomplicated by a hipster.
Last night we did the Astro Tour. Olivier loved it and today in Town Square he caught up with the Astronomers from the tour. As a parent it is great to see your kids develop new interests and enthusiasm for something different. It was also great to hear the Astronomers stating that Olivier asked some of the best questions at last night’s tour. So it looks like we may have a future astronomer in the family … at least I know he will put the telescope we gave him for his birthday to good use when we get home!
While Olivier was getting his astronomy on, Isabelle and I were checking out the indigenous art. Seeing objects being made by the local community was great to see and the artwork reasonably priced and going back into local indigenous programs.
Not long after breakfast we found ourselves on camels. I trust Camels as much as I trust Lamas. Both animals are overly represented in the Funniest Home Video show and both do not change facial expressions … so you never know what they are thinking … it could be 'I like you’ or ‘come closer I want to spit on you’. Seems we scored a great bunch of camels, they were all relatively friendly and no one was permanently hurt or spat on. Who knew these camels at the riding centre were captured from the wild and apparently we have over 500,000 camels in Australia running around. Anyway the kids loved it.
After camels we headed to The Olgas to walk part of the Valley of the Winds. We did the short walk … much to Loic’s relief. The walk is simply breathtaking. The Olgas are every bit as impressive as Uluru. I cannot explain the feeling of walking amongst this rock formation … for me it seems surreal I am doing all this at times. I truly loved walking through The Olgas.
To finish our Uluru part of the Red Centre Way tour we watched sunset at Uluru this evening. The rock changing colour speaks for itself.
So tomorrow we leave Uluru for Kings Canyon and some more walking adventures Loic is not looking forward to!
