Didier Moutia's Travels
So today, we didn't have to start too early, thank goodness!
After a quick stop at the motorhome place … yes sadly Yoshi (our campervan) got sick but thank goodness it was nothing serious ... we went to the old Ghan Train museum and Transport Museum.
At the Ghan museum we saw quite a lot of history about the Ghan train. We saw the old original train and how people used to travel on them between Adelaide to Darwin. It looked pretty posh until dad showed us where people like us get to sit! The Ghan still exists today but it is a little more comfortable than the trains at the museum! Dad still thinks it is better than the express train between Blacktown and the city.
During lunch at the museum we also played Chess against a know it all kid who thought he could beat Olivier. However in the end we got the better of him which felt so good!
Next to The Ghan museum, there is The Road Transport Hall of Fame which is basically a museum. I have never seen so many trucks in one place. Mum and Dad were surprised to see an old Citroen Deuxcheaux at the museum. Right next to it was a taxi that was used in the movie the "Last taxi Cab to Darwin".
We saw all kinds of trucks, old and newer ones, fire trucks, buses and road trains. There was The Kenworth Hall of Fame that was quite amazing and it has the first Kenworth truck ever made in Australia, March 1971 on display. It was really cool.
After the Ghan and Transport museums, we went to the RFDS (Royal Flying Doctor Service) museum and control centre. There we learned how the RFDS was first started and saw some old footage of the first planes they used. For a $2 donation per person we got a chance to have a look inside a plane and how it is set up. I got to sit in the pilot seat and got to be a patient on the stretcher.
We then got back to the caravan park where we got a chance to have a swim, jump on the "big pillow" and play in the playground. It was awesome.
For dinner, we had visitors. Alex and Nathan who were in St John NSW and now live here came to see us and we had a BBQ, and spent time telling stories.
