This is supposed to be a carving of a spaceman on this very ancient pillar. Apparently a craftsman was hired to repair the pillars and he decided it needed some different carvings. There are all sorts of references to frogs and then this. It's to remind us of the future and that these carvings will last a long time.

We had lunch & a Flamenco show at the Alameda Palace after our arrival. As you can see it was paella. It was very good but too much food. We toured the city and really enjoyed it. There are some nice shops to look at and the buildings are beautiful.

The people here honor their historical figured with these medallions. The figures are carved and placed at the top of the pillars that surround the market square. This one is of Cervantes, the famous Spanish author.

Since the ship can't go any further up the river we stopped at Vega de Terron and had to board a bus to go to Salamanca. I noticed on this trip and most of the others that the power poles are made of concrete. There are a few wooden ones but not many. They are also a lot shorter than at home. We've seen almond trees, wheat fields that have been harvested, black pigs which are responsible for the Iberian ham, and cattle. This area is also known for raising bulls...

Just had to take this picture!!!! Can't imagine eating there when there's such great food to try at the small restaurants.
