25th APRIL
HEAT WAVE IN ENGLAND
Lovely day in London today, we are watching the London marathon because
we had a busy day yesterday we went to Hampton Court.
We went by train took 1 hour and then we came back by boat which was about 1-1/2 hours.
We took a picnic and of course loved it what an amazing place Robert had to go through the maze
he had a system that would get him in and out in 3 minutes - well he didn't do it in 3 minutes
but we weren' t too bad
Henry V111 and his new bride was their - he just looked like HenryVlll and when they sang
out clear the gallery we all stood back for the King ( which was silly) but he really did look like the king.
Robert asked him for a favour - an estate up the country - the king wanted to know what Robert
would do for the king - Robert said go off and fight a war.
We had a great day it was wow wow all day I had a sore neck when I go home from looking up.
TO BRIGHTON
We have also been to Brighton fast train took as about 1 hour. Where we are living in Kew it is great,
we get around easily we have an overground station across the road, buses outside our door and the
underground two bus stops from our flat. When you rent in London you have to pay council tax but we
also get free travel and free access to medical care at the local hospital. The free travel is because we
are over 60, ( after 9.30am and before 4.30pm) we can travel around London on the buses and the
underground with the overground we can use it but only around London. Big saving as we would
spend 7- 8 pounds each per day and we go out most days.
Now too Brighton what a lovely day, warm 24 we left early thank goodness because it ended up being a
busy time at Brighton it was packed when we left around 3 to come home. It was great to see the
pier with the entertainment and of course their beach is stones not sand. No waves but lots of kids
in swimming, we had a picnic at the end of the pier great atmosphere, the shops were interesting
all tucked away in little alleys - by the time we left the beach was packed.
Henley on Thames
Robert and I spent Easter Saturday at Henley another great trip around 1 hour by train we went to see the
River and Rowing Museum where they had an exhibition on EH Shepherd drawings
from Wind In the Willows. Again the weather was hot around 28 meet some nice locals at the coffee
shop who pointed us down to the weir / lock. So many boats large and small there was a kayak race in
progress poor devils had to lift their boats out of the water and then run across the small bridges and
then put them back in and go again. It was quite some distance, hard work, interesting to watch people
were running beside them giving them small pieces of bread and jam, fruit & water as they ran with their
boats.
Till next time
