Ok I have a funny story that's actually not so funny I guess.I recently had my iPod stolen which had my calendar on it that had everything I've been doing. So I can remember what I've done but it may not be in the exact right order…but I'll try my best to keep it in order.
So I left off with the Friday before the fall break. That night I was going out for Maria from Brazil's birthday. We ended up going to a bar that had a dance floor and really loud music but it was fun because it was also cheap to get in.It was a little weird at times though because it was mostly Latinos we were with but I had Megan and Chris who were both English speaking.Anyways it was a really fun night and we ended up leaving around 4 in the morning. Then Megan and I went to Chris's house for a few hours before we went home.
Saturday we celebrated Liselotte's birthday at lunch time and we had an amazing lunch at that.We had potato and pumpkin soup and then lamb with mixed vegetables and potatoes. Then for desert we had an apple cake that was DeLiCiOuS!After the party I went and had a nap because I hadn't gotten almost any sleep the night before and I was going out again to celebrate Hylton from South Africa's birthday. We went to IN again and this time Alyssa who lives in Holbæk came with us and stayed at my house for the night.Chris also didn't have a place to stay so he ended up staying over the night and then they both left early in the morning.
On Sunday Liselotte had a family breakfast to celebrate her real birthday with just us.We had Danish pastries and smoothies…it was so good!!Then we went for a 2 hour walk in dyrehaven which is a forest in Copenhagen that has a lot of deer in it and surrounds an old king's hunting castle. When we got home we played a game called Galathea which is in Danish so I got to practice understanding and reading simple Danish sentences. The game is about an Old Danish expedition and facts about the world. It was fun and I actually won…I was usually given the kids questions though since it turns out I know almost nothing about the world. Then I went to bed early because I was exhausted.
On Monday we had another family day where they showed me different places around Copenhagen. We went to Christiania which is a 'free town' in Copenhagen that likes to think of it's self as a separate country and not part of the EU.The town is actually known for its beautiful artwork, its simplicity in life and weed.Yes weed. They actually sell it openly on the streets and are able to get away with it because the police prefer not to go there. It just causes trouble. But it's a very safe neighborhood. It has its own school system, shops and theatre. It's like a little community inside Copenhagen.Anyways, then we walked to the central bank and I got to lift the gold bar there and see a lot of old Danish notes and I went to an old Danish church. Then we went to lunch at one of Claes's friend's French book café.We had toast.Toast here isn't what it is back home though.Toast to them is 2 toasted pieces of bread with cheese and ham inside. It was really good.We then went to a Danish candy making store where you can see them making the candy right in front of you, and it was amazing too. Then we went home.Tuesday we went to Sweden for the day.We went to an old, previously Danish university town that was taken from them by Sweden a long time ago.It was so cute and very old looking. We went into a church that was from about 1050.It was so big and beautifully made; it was incredible that they could have built something like this so many years ago.It also had this huge clock but it wasn't working so that was unfortunate. After that we went for a walk through the town to the oldest section of town. There were so many cute little houses with the straw roofs and the old bricks. It was incredible that all the old buildings lasted so long. After the walk we went to an old castle that was made into a hotel. It also had a restaurant in it that we ate at.It was so fancy! We didn't even get to choose what we wanted, it was one mean with 3 courses for everyone.First we had a lobster soup with apples and cauliflower and shrimp in it.It wasn't my favorite meal but I ate it all anyways. Then we had a chicken breast with mixed vegetables and mashed potatoes. For desert we had a mixed plate with a little bit of special jello and ice cream with fruit and caramel. Then we went back to Lund and went to a museum that had the designs of many famous sculptures and artworks. Then we walked around some of the smaller streets for a little while.
On Friday was Rebeca's birthday and I went to her house for a birthday dinner with all of her host families and two other exchange students. We had shrimp with avocado and rice with chicken and sauce. It was really good. Then we had a strawberry cake for desert.
On Saturday I went out with some friends to a bar which was supposed to be Rebeca's exchange student birthday but she couldn't make it.The next weekend, on Friday the 23rd, we went to Holbæk for a rotary get together. The weird thing was there was no Rotary people there though, it was being run by past Danish exchange students. It was our Halloween weekend. We had dances every night and we went into the city on Saturday and had a Canada V.S. The World Hockey Tournament. Not many Canadians participated though so we got our buts kicked. On Saturday night we all had to get dressed up for a dinner with some Rotarians, though we didn't dress up in the traditional nice clothes way, we dressed up in Halloween costumes. It was so much fun and I got some really funny pictures with people in their costumes but unfortunately my camera got stolen so I don't have them anymore.
I think it was on Thursday, October 29th but I'm not sure.I went with my councilor, his wife and her Rotary club to get a private tour of the queen's palace, or the part where they do tours anyway. It was so cool to see the luxury that she lives in.The part where they held the tour was the Queen's son's old apartment in the palace that they remade. We got to see the crests she gives out to certain people for certain reasons and the oldest Library in the castle that is still exactly the way it was when the Queen who had it build died.We also got to see the map room with all the old maps even from back in the 1500s.
Ok now were going to skip way ahead to Wednesday, November 4th.We didn't have any school that day so I had Megan and Brendan over for a movie day and we watched Drag Me to Hell and Monsters V.S. Aliens, which both turned out to be comedies, even though the first was supposed to be horror.I also made brownies and chili.Everyone seemed to really like the chili; I think Claes and Liselotte had about 4 bowls of it each.We actually finished the whole pot, which we don't even do at home. But it was good. The brownies were a little burnt but everyone seemed to like them.
Ok now skipping ahead to Monday, November the 9th.Claes's bank had a dinner for all the customers, and seeing as I am a customer I was able to go, and I was also the only person under 20 there. The best part is that it was held in the Parliament buildings so we got a tour of the building and then had dinner in the Parliament's restaurant. The tour was very interesting, even though it was in Danish and I couldn't understand very much of it.We got to see some of the oldest parts of the building and paintings of all of the old Prime Ministers. We also saw these elevators like things but it was just box after box that you could step in that went up on one side and down on the other and you had to jump in it before it got too high or too low to step into.
Friday the 13th of November, it was my last day with Claes and Liselotte so they took me out to an Italian restaurant where we ate reindeer. It was so good, but it wasn't very Italian, in fact the whole menu wasn't very Italian. But it was so nice anyways. Then I watched War of the Worlds with Liselotte.
Well I'll leave you with that for now and I will try to write about how my new family is soon.I'm sorry it's been so long, I've been so busy with things.I love you all and I will also try to get more pictures up soon as well.
