Getting Caught Up
OK so I haven´t been able to get on the computer much so I have to get you caught up to speed. I arrived in Denmark safely on August the 2nd around 6:30 pm here. I met my first host parents, Claes and Laselotte, in the airport along with my counselor Jørgen. When we were on our way home we went the more scenic route through the city. I got to see so many beautiful buildings but I was so tired. I had only slept about 2 hours during the plane rides and my stop in Iceland. So we went home and had some supper, I had only ate once too, then I went strait to bed. Their house is in the northern part of Copenhagen in a suburb. Their house is so nice but very very old. I have a nice room that´s small but just big enough so I can´t make a mess of it. It´s white and Sofie, my host sister, had painted a beautiful black and white tree on the wall. I like it, it´s cozy. Unpacking was nice too. I found chocolate, a necklace, and a stuffed rabbit that my mom had packed as a surprise for me. Claes and Liselotte seemed like very nice and caring people and I was already starting to feel at home. On the 3rd of August I didn´t do a whole lot. Slept in, I needed it, finished unpacking, put up some pictures, went to the grocery store. Not a whole lot. Oh and it was raining a bit so I saw their slugs. Oh my god their huge!! And so gross. We had gone for a walk by the lake near their house and I saw so many of them in a brownish-orangish colour and black. They have this really good dessert here too that´s buttermilk with egg white and sugar mixed in and its a little bitter but you put these little cookies in it and eat it with the cookies in it and it is sssssoooooo good. I´ve had it almost every day. It´s called canne mælk koldskøle(I think thats how you spell it). Oh and I tried on of their danishes, mmmmmmmmm they´re delicious. Liselotte tried to teach me some Dansk (Danish) words too. Then I spent the 4th with Jørgen my counsellor and we had dasish rolls and pastries for breakfast. Then we went to apply for my citizenship at the town office. After then we went to a traditional danish restaurant which is a family garden. I had chicken salad on white bread then pork with onions cooked in the meat juice on rye bread. They were both pretty good. Then I tried pork with the skin still on it salted and cooked so the skin in crispy and at first i though oh gross thats so gross but then I tried it and it was ssoo good. I also got my cell phone at lunch from him too. After going to the mall to look for a few things we went to the bank where Liselotte works and then we went home together from there using the train! oohh that was exciting. On the 5th i spent the day with Liselotte and we went to the mall and she showed me where my language school is and that I have to get off at Nørreport station and we went shopping on the store street in central Copenhagen. My feet were so tired by the end of the day. After supper we played boche ball and went to bed after waching a movie. On the 6th I spent the day Kayaking with Claes. We went through 2 lakes then in a river leading out to the sea. The river was beautiful and there were a lot of places where we had to get out and portage but it was ok because we had wheels for the kayaks. We passed a lot of old beautiful mills. Then we had to turn around and go back. When we got home Claes had to go out and do some things so I went out and read on the deck and ended up falling asleep out in the sun so now my face is burnt. That night after supper we went for a drive to the sea and had ice cream. The moon was really pretty that night so I ended up taking a bunch of pictures. I also saw Sweden. The coast was so close that when you looked across the ocean you could see it. I went to bed soon after we got home because I was so tired from the day. On the 7th I went to Claes´s work with him and then another rotary member, Lonnie, picked me up and we went to Louisiana museum for most of the day. We went through the paintings, there was some beautiful ones, and then some quite odd ones. then we went to the cafe and then we went through a green architecture exhibition where there were a lot of models of new ´green buildings` and it was very interesting seeing as I am thinking about going into architecture. After the museum we went to a restaurant in Nivå havn (a harbour) looking out over the sea and I had rølspætte med rejer og remoulade (fish with shrimp and pickle sauce(not relish)) and that was quite good. then we went for ice cream with her daughter. Did I mention their ice creams are huge?? And they´re all in waffle cones. Their one scoop is like our 2 or even 3 scoop back home. Its awesome cause it costs the same here as it does back home pretty much. Then that night I went to see AQUA with Liselotte in Tivoli, their amusement park. I didn´t have to pay either because Liselotte has a card that lets her and one other person in for free. The concert was amazing. They put on such a good show and it was crazy there. They´re a Danish band actually so everyone knows them. On the 8th I did´t do much. Sofie came home from camp that day so I got to meet her for the first time and we went to Claes´s sister´s for her birthday and I met Claes´s mother and step father and his two nieces and one of their husbands. We had supper and then went out on the deck for tea and talked. Although I couldn´t talk much or understand because they were all speaking danish!! But it was a pretty good night. Then on the 9th I got up and made breakfast sandwiches for the family and I think they all enjoyed that very much. The rest of the day was kind of lazy. We played a `Viking game´and Claes´s mother and step dad and niece came over for a few hours. That´s pretty much all. Then yesterday I started Language School!!! Oh I am so excited to start speaking Danish. The school isn´t hard, you just have to pay attention to understand. Things are very hard to pronounce though. I met a lot of very nice exchange students though. They´re all so nice. And I got a normal Brazilian greeting that morning too. It suprised me at first because I know that´s how the greet and I did that with the other Brazilian exchange students but i wasn´t expecting it. lol but it was all good. After language school Sofie and I went shopping and then went to Catrine´s (other sister) for super. When I got home I was so tired from the day I just went to bed. Today I went to Language School again and it was good again and it was fun to be with them all again. After language school about 10 of us went shopping around in Copenhagen for a couple hours and then some of us went home. Like me. I took the train home, got one of their rediculously yummy danishes and then walked home. Ever since I´ve been on and off the computer setting up this blog. So I hope this is easier, I know it is for me because I don´t have so much time to answer e-mails. I had homework tonight from school so Liselotte helped me with that mostly practising saying body parts and numbers and letters. She has this book and it´s about letters and for every letter there´s a little story so she would help me pronounce the letter, then tell me what the story was about and then I would read it in danish. It was good practise. We didn´t get all the way through though so were going to finish the rest tomorrow. Now I´m going to have my tea and watch the news with Liselotte so hej hej (this actually means bye)
