Adventures of a Global Wanderer
After lunch we were due to take the ferry across to Seonyudo Island where we would be staying overnight. There are two ferry terminals, the domestic one and an international one for sailings to China. I thought we were just going to see some scenery and get some breeze but we ended up being stalked and chased by an aggressive flock of seagulls most of the way. On the outside deck a family decided to feed the seagulls who were waiting by the docked ship. As we pulled away they continued to follow. However, many other seagulls noticed this activity and decided to join in. It became a bizzare and somewhat frightening scene as we picked up speed and a herd of several dozen seagulls continued to tail us. The family continued throwing chips in the air keeping the seagulls attention. This became interesting to others fascinated by the scene who decided to join in tossing more food up. It became something out of an Alfred Hitchcock movie as dozen upon dozens of seagulls continued to tail us and swooping down to pick up food out of peoples fingers. Fortunately they do not get aggressive, did not bite anyones fingers, or leave any seagull droppings behind. For the most part of the 50 min trip the herd stayed with us. It wasnt until the final stages they began to drop off and finally give up was we ran out of food and reached near the end. It was a rather strange scene I've never witnessed before. As they tailed off we admired the scenic ocean coastline scattered with lots of small island and fishing boats.
