Adventures of a Global Wanderer
After our morning biking and late breakfast we were due to take the 11am ferry back to the mainland. This ferry was not going to be as eventful as our arrival being stalked by a horde of seagulls. However, the ride was longer at 90mins vs the shorter 50min ferry arriving This time the boat had a full upper deck. As the ride was going to take slightly longer than before they had a sleeping room where people could lie on the floor and rest for the journey. The family that had been feeding the seagulls on the way over was on the ferry and ready with their bag of chips on hand. However, there were no seagulls this time waiting to be fed. Heading out was lots of breathtaking scenery against a clear blue sky as we left the island coastline. There were also dozens and dozens of floating fishing nets stretching across the horizon. The ride along the mainland was very industrial with lots of refineries and shipping ports. Since Japanese colonial times and perhaps earlier, Gunsan has been a key shipping and transportation hub for the Korean peninsula which at that time was unified into one single country. On arrival at the port a large ferry boat was docked at the international terminal having just arrived or ready to depart to China.
