For my trip to Taiwan I started a day early by taking a train to Busan to get a motel for the night. I had a ticket booked for 5.23 but then found out this was the vice principals last day and she had left so I could actually sneak out. I tried to change to an earlier train but the next one was 5.11 so not much difference even though I reached the station after 3pm. At Gupo there was rain and I met up with a friend. Then we looked for a motel. Last time I found a love motel for 25,000w ($22) run by two old ladies with pink lighting and wallpaper. This time we went to another street with more motels. The first one we went into was 30,000w ($26) so I took it as it was getting late. The room had a large round bed with electric heating pad. It also came with complimentary cigarettes along with the standard condoms that come with motel rooms. The guy kept telling me to put it onto channel 2. I joked to my friend it was a porno channel. When he left I turned the tv on and sure enough it was korean porn. This was strange as regular korean tv is so conservative they blur out any nudity or even a person smoking a cigarette. First there was a naked man and woman in a bathtub doing some infomercial for some green crystals you put in the bathwater to turn it green. After switching to an english movie channel I checked it again later. This time there were two women going at it but they were so not into it and had a look of "when will this be over". I was wondering if maybe they were north korean defectors unable to find work as with large families and strict family pressures it would be hard to imagine how koreans could enter the porn industry? In the morning I took the train over to gimhae airport. This was the first time I could ride the monorail in daylight as last time my fight to Hong Kong was early morning so still darkness. The train is driverless so you can see out the front window and the suburb of Gimhae is quite mountainess After checking in I looked for some food. The had dwanjanjiggae which is a spicy bean, tofu, seafood soup for 5500w ($5), and came with a bowl of rice which you can dunk in to make it more filling. I then bought my return ticket to Daegu for Sunday to save time, and got money for taiwan dollars. The cellphone counter was helpful in explaining how to use my cell in taiwan to text or call local or back to korea. I didnt realize my cell was active worldwide and that there are certain buttons and codes to use to dial out. The flight was just over two hours and I managed to doze off for a bit. Then I took the airport bus to taipei central station for 125 TWD ($4), which was over an hour long. In the metro I was then able to buy my five day tourist pass for 700 TWD ($23). There was also a bakery selling real fresh bread which we dont get in korea, so I bought a raisin loaf for 30D ($1). My hostel was the last subway stop. However, I didnt realize the subway branches and like london you have to read the terminal station so I got on the wrong train. I had to get off and switch trains so I lost my seat. The hostel was quite easy to find about 200m from the station. They had an impressive panorama ocean view on their hostelbookers profile. However, the terrace is a lower floor and you are overlooking the train tracks and subway.
