Adventures of a Global Wanderer
This morning was the last of my early morning flights as I left Norway after my week long adventure. I was leaving the hotel at 7am but first had to talk to the office to make sure I wasn't going to get charged twice on two cards when my self check in didn't work yesterday. They said they needed to wait to see if the transaction showed up overnight.
The person was only the night duty guy so didn't know and I had to get to the airport so I said I'd email them later. I got the cheaper train at 7.34 rather than the expensive more frequent airport shuttle. Ticket was 90K ($18) one way.
Unusually the train was delayed and moving slowly. As I got to the airport I rushed to do my self check in and select my seat. Airport staff were buzzing around the terminal on kids scooters to get around.
At security the lady decided she didn't like my giant pencil case I use for liquids and said I had too many liquids. They had to all fit inside a smaller sandwich bag. I asked why when I flew in Trondheim, Bergen, and Stavanger with the same bag. She said the rules were different.
So I took the caps off everything to make them fit in the bag as she said you have to be able to seal the bag. She was not impressed and walked off leaving her other colleague to deal with me but the next lady just let me go.
On take off I picked the best side to sit as I got very close views of Oslo city centre. Recognizable was the Opera House and peninsula the Castle sits on
Also clearly visible was the Palace which sits in its own park and the long boulevard leading to the train station I'd walked yesterday.
As we arrived over Germany there were many coastal wind farms.
The landscape became more familiar having visiting Germany and mainland Europe so many times.
On arrival at Hamburg the airport train was a shockingly low 3 Euros ($4.50) after I'd just paid $18 for the Oslo airport train. I'd expected prices to return to normal now I'd left the most expensive country I'd ever been to
A woman also started talking to me in German on the train asking something about one of the stops. I tried replying in German that I was a tourist so time to switch my language skills as well after speaking Korean for so long
