Adventures of a Global Wanderer
The highlight for today was the 5 hour Sognefjord Cruise all the way to Bergen. Unfortunately I had the worst possible weather as the rain wasn't clearing.
As it was low season and the last weekend for this route I was able to get the three corner seats all to myself for a good clear view.
Rather than being a 'tourist cruise' this is actually a local ferry stopping and picking/dropping off passengers at all the local towns. While it does make the cruise last longer it lets you see a lot more of the local communities.
I thought we could go outdoors but it seems the door was closed and the rain was so bad anyway. We went thru lots of little pockets of heavy, light rains, and clear skies. I was still hoping as we moved the sky would clear in time for the sunset.
We had everything, rain, hail, wind, clearing pockets, sun, and repeat thru the cycle. Near the end were giant waves and some girls started screaming.
After an hour an American couple got on one of the local stops, sat behind me, and were doing my head in with their endless nonsense chatter
Later a large group of Russian men came aboard. One was playing really loud Russian music on his speakers oblivious to whether everyone else on the trip wanted to hear Russian music. Eventually a giant sized Norwegian guy went over and told them to turn it off.
I did get to see a peak of the sunset. As we made it in to Bergen by 9pm the rain hit, timing it exactly for my arrival.
I stopped by a kebab shop by the hotel to get a 'small' for 50K ($10). It was actually a whole foot long olympic baton size so who knows how big a medium or large is??!
Back in the hotel was a strange Friday nite talk show including Frida from Abba with Desmond Tutu talking about 'foregiveness' before being joined by Elvis Costello for a music performance.
