Adventures of a Global Wanderer
Today was a beautiful warm sunny day to explore Hamburg. The first impression was how overrun it was with people. It felt like being inside an ant colony. It was also more multicultural with many different nationalities.
I got a fish sandwich from Nordsee Restaurant at Hamburg station for only 2.80 Eu ($4.20). Wow food was cheap after Norway were I daren't not eat anything!
First I went towards the Town Hall and passed some old churches along the way. There was interesting and unique German architecture.
The town hall is located in a large plaza which was very busy with locals on their lunch break enjoying the sun. There are tours of city hall at certain hours which I didn't want to wait for but you could still enter the main foyer.
It was quite grand and meant to showcase the wealth and power of the city. In the rear was another courtyard with a large water sculpture.
Behind the Town Hall was one of the many city canals. The main plaza had some street artists. Heading towards the southern canals was a grocery store highlighting I was in the land of cheap food finally!
The further south were some of the older brides the nearer I got to the old wharf district. They were adorned with statues and historic streets had been turned into outdoor cafes.
