Adventures of a Global Wanderer
This morning I was to fly to Brunei. It had been raining heavy all night so cooled down the morning temperature. First I went to the City Mosque to board a bus to the central bus terminal near the airport.
Ticket price was 1Rm ($.35 cents). I threw my ticket in the trash bin not knowing an inspector would later board and ask for tickets. I told him I was a tourist going to the airport so he told me to keep my ticket next time.
From the regional bus terminal I had to walk 2km back to the airport. Luckily it was still early and cool from the rains and I arrived by 9am at the airport
I had time for breakfast so got a multigrain chicken egg sandwich with juice for 9Rm ($3). When it was time to board I couldn't find my gate. This is a small and new terminal so I didn't see how I could get lost.
I walked to the end of all the gates and didn't see my gate. It was all vacant and deserted so I went back to try to ask someone. Two German tourists were looking for the same gate so I said to go back to the VIP lounge and ask someone there.
They sent us to the opposite end of the terminal. They signs never indicated this and had sent us in the direction we had gone.
When we boarded the plane had two outside propellers something I've not flown on before. It even had its own fold in staircase similar to private jets. Business class seats were also in the back of the plane by my east
On the runway it manouvered very lightweight like a car. I was on the wrong side for take off so didn't see Kuching city but did see the ocean.
I was also asked to do a digital survey. I kept thinking I paid $120 for this flight that was only under an hour. The reason I had to fly was because the Islamic holiday was a few days away and I couldn't take the risk of taking a bus and finding they were sold out during peak travel period.
On descent I had great views of the entire city and all the landmarks.
On arrival at Brunei there was nobody at the information desk which was hard to find as well. I was hoping to get a map and information on where to board the bus. I also went to the one money exchange counter where the guy seemed to walk away and go for lunch so I had to wait for him to come back. I needed money as I had no local money to pay a cab or bus
I followed the signs to the buses and was outside in the parking area. I saw no signs for buses so asked different people. They told me to just stand there and wait. The two Germans from my flight also came and were waiting for the bus also
There are supposed to be four buses that come to the airport but after half an hour nothing came and nobody else was waiting. We decided to share a cab to the city for $25BND ($$20). So this worked out to about $8BND each.
I was hoping the rest of my trip wasnt going to be like this or I would run out of money taking cabs everwhere.
