Adventures of a Global Wanderer
My trip was finally over and I had to get to the airport. I stopped by a local bakery to stock up on food since Icelandair charges for food, I don't like their choices, and they are not filling enough for a transatlantic flight.
Metro fare was 36K ($7) but I only had 35K in coins. I tried my credit card but it got rejected. I'd been having problems from day 1 with my visa card being locked, I was relying on my other two cards, now one had locked again and I was down to the last card as I needed one last transaction to get me to the airport.
Luckily my card went thru and I got the train. There is construction by the airport so the train was stopping two stops early. Another shuttle train was running back and forth to the airport at 15 min intervals.
All this was cutting it close and I rushed in when I got to the airport to print my boarding pass. I kept trying and it wouldn't print. I asked a staff member and they said I had to goto the check in and stand in line with all the people checking bags. They did not have an express line.
Finally I got my card and rushed thru security. I needed to find the money exchange before I boarded to change my last Kronas to Euros and have time to buy some souvenirs but I was so rushed.
I was looking forward to returning to Iceland and had stunning clear views of the landscape and coastline.
It was interesting seeing the unique landscape as sections were covered in snow and the other side not. The rivers also carved interesting strands as they made their way thru.
I had about a 90 min layover in Iceland and got some Icelandic chocolate as souvenirs.
On arrival in Iceland I thought it would be easier to show my Canada passport as I had arrived on my UK passport. She was looking for my last entry stamp so I had to show my UK passport explaining that its easier to travel in Europe on the UK one. Then she stamped the Canada passport so I was better off not using it at all.
It was nice to see the familiar landscape around Reykjavik and I plan to come back again. There were distant geysirs erupting on take off.
The rain seemed to be following me as on arrival in Toronto a massive rain storm hit as I was waiting for my bus at the subway. Oh well...
