Adventures of a Global Wanderer
The last museum to visit was the Iceland National Museum of History located on the University Campus. Entrance was 1500 ISK ($15) and certainly worth it as one of the best places to visit thus far.
The museum was very rich in arts and heritage of all kinds, surprising for an island so barren. Although the island has been populated for 1000 years it was surprising to find this rich heritage as very little evidence of long term settlements seems to remain in the barren wilderness.
The first section was on Christian heritage and had detailed carvings and artwork or church relics. This was then followed by tapestries and old copies of Bibles.
Along with gold, jewels, and swords, there was also a rich aristocratic European collection with period artwork and furnishings.
There were also detailed wood carvings with very miniature details. It was very surprising to find this level of rich heritage as I'm not aware of old churches or architecture dating this far back on the island.
Definitely a must see collection and a highlight of Iceland.
