Adventures of a Global Wanderer
Sunday morning I was able to leave the hostel and make my way to the school apartment where I would be living tor the next four weeks. I'd located the building earlier but now had to make my way with my luggage.
I made my way to the tram stop and was going to pay cash. The driver is in a sealed area and there is no cash payment on the tram. I was hoping a conductor wouldn't come by checking and I was holding a 500Ft note in my hand ready to pay but it was ok.
Walking from the tram station I just had to follow the road round a curve. I thought I could cut thru the side streets. I actually should have continued on the main street as I got lost in a maze of side streets whose names kept changing every block so it was confusing knowing which street to walk down
The landlady met me and showed me in. I chose this apartment due to its original character and because it was close to the school. There are more modern apartments available but I liked the character of this one
The kitchen is smaller than what I expected from the pictures. Its actually just a closet with a stove and sink on either side. You light the gas stove with matches. My tv has mostly Hungarian channels.
The other unique feature is the washing machine. Its a steel drum inside the bathroom. You have to lock the metal lid over the top with its locking mechanism then run the machine. The water drains into the bathtub.
Just around the corner from my apartment is the river and then I'm facing the Parliament building so an excellent tourist location. I can walk to the Royal Palace or the Chain Bridge. Closeby is a Metro Station
This isn't really a retail area so there are no supermarkets or restaurants. Also arriving on a sunday most things were closed so I have to buy some food on Monday. My fridge is the size of a mini bar fridge so you cant put much in there
Later I noticed my building is facing the Canadian Embassy.. Hows that for neighbours!
