Adventures of a Global Wanderer
Saturday I had a spare day after going in to school in the morning to work on my assignment. I decided to goto the castle as its behind where I live and the school, and I haven't done anything touristy once class started.
The castle is easy to get to from where I live and a short walk, part of the reason I chose this location. I'd wanted to goto the Royal Palace Museum.
On my first visit in 2004 I did go but close to closing time so didn't see the whole museum. This time I had the whole day so no worries.
Entrance ticket was 1800 Ft ($9) + 800Ft ($4) for a photo ticket. There were no restrictions on taking photos once you had the ticket which was good for a change.
In 2004 I was only able to see the basement caverns so this time I started with the upper floors. The ground floor had lots of carvings from the Roman period.
There was a section with royal portraits and outfits. An interesting section was on the soviet era communist propaganda thru art. The top floor had the prehistoric era remains before the arrival of the Avars around the 5th century
The basement had the medieval section with British style monarchs and caverns. The floor plan does not follow the building above and winds thru many long tunnels and chambers. In one area was a chapel but this was closed off for a private wedding
It was nice to finally get to see the museum which I didn't in 2004. Next door was the National Art Gallery but I didn't want to pay again and might be similar style portraits. Since I'm here for a month I can always come back.
