It has been raining quite a bit up here on the Cape, and consequently the roads have turned to absolute crap!
Where once we were travelling at 90 km/h in 2WD, we are now having to drive at 30 km/h in low 4WD, picking our way through the bog, trying to find a semblance of a track. It has been a bit hair-raising, to say the least. Lee did his first fishtail in the Navvy yesterday, which resulted in us running onto the embankment. After that, he decided that it was Lea's turn to drive today, and share some of the stress. She had clocked up more hours driving around muddy landfills than she'd care to remember, and spent the day having flashbacks to her time in garbology.
By the time we'd pulled up at Musgrave Roadhouse in the afternoon, the carpark was full of road trains that had been grounded due to the bad conditions. It had taken us just over 6 hours to do 180km, and we were glad that we hadn't had to contend with them as well as the road.
The Navvy and Deefa26 were a sight to behold, all covered in mud. Luckily the seals held up well, and we didn't get any of it inside the camper. All the cars heading north aren't nearly as muddy as us, so there's hope that the road conditions south of here aren't as bad!
