Once we left the fishing mecca of Karumba it was time to hit the dirt again.
We jumped back on the Savannah Way and headed west, meeting up with a couple we'd met on our fishing charter - Andrew and Caroline - who were going in the same direction. We formed a bit of a convoy, and spent a couple of nights bush camping alongside waterfalls (that weren't falling) and rivers. We quickly discovered that we know people in common, Andrew has worked with Lea's good buddies Kylie and Richard. What a small world. We also discovered that we're all rather into good food - to quote Andrew - "we're not here to suffer". Let the cook-offs begin!
Took a detour off the Savannah Way down to Lawn Hill National Park, as it was a must-see. We certainly weren't disappointed. Had a cruisy first day checking out the National Park, then swimming in the waterhole at our campsite (no crocs), another day was spent down at Riversleigh just down the road - home of a myriad of fossils. Cook-offs with Andrew & Caroline continued, with Lea & Lee getting a lesson in how to cook the perfect roast in a camp oven. We bow to the masters, it was fantastic.
Waved them goodbye the next day, then spent a lovely few hours canoeing up Lawn Hill Gorge and going for bushwalks. We could've stayed longer, but we have to keep moving, there's still a lot to see...
