Deb's Travels...
Captains Log Star Date: 16.02.05
Well this stoopid confuser wont recognise my camera which is mightily annoying me!! I will have to wait until I get to Brisbane to update my photo's... soz about that bear with me! The not so modern technology here is the problemo!!
Airlie Beach was ok, we were a bit slow on the uptake and dawdelled around for a few days before booking a sailing trip around the whitsundays. It was a shame we didnt do it sooner and move on quicker because we were both glad to leave when we did, there isn't really much to do in Airlie hence a piercing and a haircut on my part! Too much dwelling time for sure!! : )
The sailing trip was good, we only went for one day in the end, as we were being tramps and it was cheaper! he he! It was a really good day. I woke up and looked outside to see it was raining-typical! The one day we actually got our booties in gear and went out for the day it was raining!! Anyway I didnt let this deter me and off we went for the day.
We sailed through some thunder storms which was, well, dark really and grey and not much else to report on that front... we arrived at a place called Tongue Island after about an hour of sailing and the rain had relented for a while so we trekked up to a look out point which was longer than I had realised (hence the reason I bothered!!) but it was totally worth it when I got to the top! The views were amazing, white sands over the sea...absolutly gorgeous it was...I will upload a photo when I can...just to make you all obscenley jealous!!
We then trekked back down through the trees to go and chill on the beach, yes, of course it had started raining again by this time!! So we donned our stinger suits (have I mentioned this before? There are stingers in Queensland through summer so no swimming in the ocean unless protected by a swimmer suit...we hired ours from the boat, and found out that a stinger suit is essentially an all in one lycra swimming costume-I'm not totally sure what good swimming costume overalls would do in the instance a heart stopping (yes the box jelly fish actually gives you a heart attack and kills you!!!!) jelly fish did make contact-but I trusted the lycra with my life and ran into the sea in the puring rain! : )
It was really quite liberating swimming in the rain, diving through the waves which were of modest size really compared with further down the coast...
From there we went back onto the boat then stopped off at the Whitsundays to do a spot of snorkelling. It was awesome, it had stopped raining by now and I swam for around an hour, I recognised a lot of the fish from the aquarium in Townsville, it was really cool, shoals of fish swimming literally centimetres from my face!
The deeper the water the colder it got and the fish were bigger...there were some monsters in there! It was a really good day though and we got the overnight bus to Bundaberg that night...
Over and out xxx
