Deb's Adventures
This morning we all got up early and drove about an hour South to Domincal. We arrived around 8am and checked in for our horseback ride through the jungle. Our destination today is Nayaca Waterfalls. After our group of 15 gathered we were assigned horses and we set out for our ride.
Nauyaca Waterfalls are located on a private reserve owned and operated by Lulo’s family. Their love of nature and wildlife led the family to develop ecotourism to protect and preserve the land. The horseback tour is approximately 12 kilometers and is guided by Lulo family members and friends.
The first stop was breakfast in the jungle at Don Lulo's home. We were served corn bread, fruit and some kind of potato pancake. It was very good and the rest was welcomed. They had some Peacocks and a couple of Macaw Parrots to entertain us while we ate.
After 30 minutes we were back on our horses and headed further into the jungle. The next portion of our ride took about 45 minutes. When we stopped we could hear the waterfalls through the trees. By now I was very hot in my long pants and long sleeve sun shirt. We were given two options; One, take the high road and enjoy the view or two, take the low road and jump into the water. I chose the low road and Ryan and Clarice took the high road. After a beautiful and much needed swim Eric and I set out to explore and to take some pictures. Ryan climbed up the falls a bit and took a high jump into the pool below. Nauyaca Falls are absolutely gorgeous.
1 hour later we were back on the hoses and headed back to Don Lulo's for lunch. Our horses were getting ornery, maybe they were hot and tired but they got a little feisty with one another and were occasionally biting and kicking. It made for quite an adventure. We had another great meal consisting of chicken, rice, beans, salad, potatoes and tortillas. We completed our tour by 2pm.
On our way back to the house we took two detours one to another airplane bar. This one was a 727. After an icy cold beer we drove to the small hippy surfing village of Playa Dominical. It reminded me of a parking lot at a Grateful Dead show with a beach in the background.
We headed home for swim. Martin came over with more moonshine. Eric and I decided to stay in for the evening but Ryan and Clarice went out to dinner and bar hopping with Martin. Another beautiful day in paradise.
