Again we had an early start today up before dawn to make our way to Kakadu National Park. First we went to see some aboriginal rock art at Ubirr. This site has been opened up to the public, however, some sites are sacred to the aboriginals and therefore are kept secret. The rock art is paintings on the rock face that depict aboriginal stories and include people, spirits and animals. These stories are used to teach morals and values to the aboriginal children. Some paintings showed the anatomy of fish in order for them to be able to eat their prey once it had been caught. The site was on top of a hill, where the views where 360 degrees and you could see for miles. We also saw a massive rock formation that was in Crocodile Dundee 2 - needless to say Dan was very happy to see a part of the film set of one of his favourite movies!
After lunch we visited the waterfalls of Barramundi Gorge and we hiked for a refreshing dip in the plunge pools. One of the pools had a deep hole with an entrance through to the main plunge pool around 5 feet down. Dan had a go at going through it and did it first time!
We then travelled to Yellow River and watched the sunset. The sky turned from blue to yellow to pink. It was a beautiful end to a great day!
