We left Bangkok airport on Saturday morning and flew for 2 hours to Singapore airport where we had a 5 hour wait until our flight to Darwin. We arrived into Darwin at 3am on Sunday morning and stayed one night (or a few hours!) at a hotel nearby the hotel. We checked out at 11am and made our way by taxi to Mitchell Street, the backpacker's hub of the city, and our hostel for the next 2 nights.
We were too early to check in so we left our lugguage at the hostel and went to explore the city. The city is extremely small compared to UK cities and is easy to walk around. We went for a walk around the park overlooking the sea, did a little shopping (stocking up on suncream) and got some lunch. We then headed back to the hotel to check in and a nap before we went out for dinner to an Italian in the evening.
Today, we have done a walking tour of the city as shown in our Lonely Planet guide book and have seen the historical sights. The city was very badly bombed during WWII and also had a very destructive cyclone in the 70's, so the city is quite modern. We walked down to the harbour which is very pretty and now we are off to the beach for a few hours. Tomorrow we have a 3 day 4WD tour of the Northern Territory.
