Today was a very early start at 6:30am. We are on an adventure tour from Darwin down to Adelaide. The tour is split into 3 smaller tours so we will meet lots of different people.
Our first part of the trip is around the Darwin area and the surrounding National Park. First of all we stopped and looked at some huge termite mounds, one of which was around 80 years old! We then headed to Litchfield National Park to see Florence Falls. We walked down 135 steps to the base of the waterfall and then went for a swin in the cooling water. The temperture here has been around 35c and it's winter, so the water certainly cools we down!
After we dried off and walked UP the 135 steps, we headed out to Aboriginal land , where some aborigines talked to us about some different aspects of their lives. They showed and discussed digeridoos and explained how they make them out of termite riden trees. These certain termites are only found in the Northern Territory and so there are alot of fakes around where which the wood is bored out. They also showed us how they paint the instruments with colour from the rocks. We were shown how they weave baskets, nets and even bags with natural grassess found in the bush. They even colour the grassess with natural colours. Then some of the group had a go at throwing spears. Dan had a go but didn't hit the target! They really do know how to live off the land!
In the afternoon, after lunch, we travelled to Mary River where we had a boat cruise just before sunset. We saw lots of wildlife iincluding birds, ducks, wallabies and even crocs!!! We saw both freshwater and saltwater crocs both sunbathing and we got some great pics before they went off for a swim.
After watching the sunset we made our way to Point Stuart Wilderness where we stayed overnight in a permentant campsite.
