Yet another lazy day: pool-beach-bar but with the best meal of the trip so far on a lantern lit balcony with a live duo. Typically found on the second last night. We are getting excited about going to Saigon on Saturday. Officially we are going to Ho Chi Minh City but no one, absolutely no one, calls it that. Everyone says Saigon.
Nha Trang has been interesting as well as the Russians we have seen nightlife. Vietnam doesn't really do nightlife due to the influence of the fun police. There is sort of a curfew. In Hanoi it was 12.00 and everywhere else it's been10.00. It's not that they expect everyone in bed at 10.00 but they like the bars closed. The exception are the bars with doors that can be closed. It's not that they are against fun but the police go home at 10.00 and they want to leave everything tidy. Nha Trang is different. We haven't been up late enough to find out what time closing is but there are queues at the nightclubs as we are going to bed at 12.00. The other novelty is that we've been offered drugs twice: coke and grass. If he'd offered ibuprofen we might has taken him up on it. It is however flattering compared to Ibiza where we watched the young people being offered drugs and we were offered a fridge. Overall any illegal drugs are unusual in this part of the world. Bangkok airport has a massive sign saying they carry the death penalty. Vietnam it appears wants you to go to bed drunk but early and medicated is also acceptable.
