So we had a 1am ride to Le Saba which is on the Honduran Caribbean coast and caught the ferry to Roatan Island. We were warned that this ferry ride may be rough!!! UNDERSTATEMENT OF THE YEAR! it was traumatic to say the least - the boat literally jumped the 6ft+ waves - causing 2 of our group to be violently sick and another to have a proper freak out! and by freak out we mean Panic Attack. What a ride!!! We nicknamed the boat - the journey to hell as honestly we thought we may die... Luckily Dave had taken some sea sickness pills early and was prepared, Megan being a cat on a pirate ship in a previous life was absolutely fine - except when she tried to prove you could walk while the boat was in motion - Bad move - she came off with a bruise on the sie of her legthe size of a melon - no joke it is HUGE!. To summerise one lady actually walked onto the boat and was wheelchaired off.
Luckily the island is fantastic, we had some great weather and stayed in the most touristy poart called the westend. Literally the hoetsl were right on the beachfront. The island has a real Caribbean feel to it - and like Caye Caulkner people were really friendly - the only difference was the pricing! Its pretty expensive here - being a popular destination for the yanks.
Dave got to dive on the second day completeing his Padi refresher with no problems, and getting 2 dives in, one of a wrecked boat 20m down, and the other 3 earthquake cracks in the reef. It was absolutely stunning, and although he was nerveous - the dive master was pretty impressed. He saw sea slugs, squid and a whole host of fish and coral.
We also got to do a tour around the island which was awesome. Seeing the Mangrove forests where Pirates used to hide their boats, beautiful terquoise bays and an Iguana farm with over 2000 inhabitants. We also got to eat some local seafood incl Grouper Fish and Lobster - Yum
This Island has been so far one of our highlights in a trip that is proving well worth the money
