So we left Flores and headed to a town called Rio Dulce which is just off the caribbean coast. Again we weren't expecting much from this place as a tropical storm had just passed, how wrong can you be? Its very appealing, especailly to American yacht owners (as its the safest place in the caribbean during hurricane season - not to mention cheap!). We woke up today excited as we were heading to another Mayan site called Tikal. Unlike the other Mayan sites we have visited it is renowned as one of the largest and less commercialised. Tikal is an hour away from our island home of Flores, and during the ride we got to see some of rural Guatamala. The local villages are small, and their are horses, dogs, chickens and tukeys everywhere. Some of the dogs are a little suicidal and sleep in the middle of the roads....

So we had to leave Caye Caulkner (tears!) and head to San Ignacio which is a border town in the interior of Belize. This was an interesting trip as we used the local "chicken bus" something our foreign office says not too.
