This was a long journey, we exited Mexico where we didn't pay the bribe which seems standard practice here! Anyhow after 8 hours we reached the ferry dock in Belize City where we caught a speedboat to Caye Caulkner, an island right next to the reef
Belize was celebrating its indipendence the day we arrived and all throughout the country were flags and locals dressed up. The countryside is also very lush and green which helped the journey go quickly. Belize city was crazy busy... locals everywhere celebrating - drinking and dancing. We had fresh street lobster for dinner and slept in a sea breeze hotel which was very refreshing compared to Tulum.
Dave looked into diving the Blue Hole but it is a deep dive so we all decided to go Snorkelling in the reef as its the 2nd largest in the world. This was the best decision ever! We spent 6 hours on the reef, swam with nurse sharks, stingrays, grouper fish and all sorts of tropical fish. The water here is crystal clear - way better than the time Dave snorkelled the great barrier reef. It was perfect, we also hunted for manitees, but with no luck :-(. This was the best snorkelling we have both ever done.
Again we had lobster (the speciality) for dinner which was sensational. This is the life... I wish we could stay here longer but we have to head into the interior tomorrow - but what a highlight this place has been. Beautiful.
