Dave & I arrived at Wilpena caravan park late in the afternoon after exploring 2 country towns on the way, and note, Dave also ate a huge $11 steakburger at Hawker; but he only took a photo of mine! When we set up our tent home in the hot afternoon, a nice older German lady came over and gave us a cool drink as we looked so hot. There are lots of older German tourists here, mostly they are driving the big camper vans that are hired. We are about the only people here with Aussie accents. Everyone is so friendly as usual.
We went for a hike up to the hilly area to see Wilpena Pound from the top. With my gammy arthritis knee I am finding the hilly bits rather hard. We met some English hikers using hikers sticks which a lot of European people use, and the German tourists have told us they are the way to go. So I will be buying a set of hiking sticks when I can, as I plan to be hikng a lot on our travels, and it will help. These sticks fold up small, which is essential for us travelling light on motorbikes.
The Wilpena Pound caravan park area is so lovely and peaceful and relaxing. Huge river gums and waterholes along the creeks, bird life, kangaroos. The rangers and other staff are helpful with any queries and advice.
We're finding our RJays speed motorcycle boots are perfect for hiking. Everything we are travelling with has to be practical! No extras as baggage. Our tent set up is perfect and comfy....I wonder how we need so much "stuff" in a big house now. Mind you, the weather is so perfect and still, so it's easy to wax lyrical about a bush tent lifestyle right now!
Well, tomorrow is another day...motorcyling to more hiking places.
