"The Intrepids" do Sydney - 15th May
First priority in the morning was to get onto Mario of Thunderbikes in Perth to order parts for Trish's bike. It was going to be easier to get Mario to Express Post them than to try to find Moto Guzzi parts over here. In Mario's true style he had them in stock and it was no problem to send them to us.
Finally ready to head out for our new adventure. When I stayed here 16 years ago you had to catch a bus to the station, but now there is a train station within easy walking distance. Down into the bowels of the earth deeper and deeper via long descending escalators until we reached the platform. The trains are very efficient and in no time at all we were heading over the Sydney Harbour Bridge with views of the Harbour and the Opera House.
Today was to be an orientation day so we came up out of the underground and strolled down to Circular Quay for all the obligatory photos of the Opera House. Then we headed on around the foreshore walk to the base of the Bridge, more photos of course. The Rocks is where the original settlement of Sydney was so were meandered through the streets taking in the atmosphere and imagining people in and around the old buildings. The Sydney Discovery Centre at the Rocks was very interesting and filled in a lot of the gaps in our knowledge of early settlement.
Another stroll around to the Opera House for a up close look, unfortunately the up close look wasn't as good as they are doing major renovations to the front steps. Still worth the look. From there were continued our circumnavigation f the city by walking up past Government House, The Botanical Gardens, War Memorial and all the time checking out places we want to visit later. By this time we had used up a whole day so we jumped back onto the Underground at Museum station and around to Wynyard station where there was a Coles supermarket and left stocked up with food for the next couple of days.
The sun now sets at 5:06pm so by the time we emerged from the underground at North Ryde it was dark so of course we took a short cut back through the cemetery to the caravan park.
I can't wait for tomorrow to get back in there on our $2.50 access all transport tickets.
