Visited the Hot Water Beach at low tide to experience the hot springs that surface in the sand on this particular beach. Arrived to find that this large, beautiful beach was empty apart from one small area that was very congested with people digging and sitting in holes in the sand. We joined in the fun with the spades we had brought from the B&B. In some places the spring water was too hot to bear whilst in other spots it was only slightly warm. With a bit of luck and some sand engineering we managed to create a pleasantly hot pool. Hilary and Gill had a wonderfully childish time in their hot spot, until the incoming tide destroyed their idyll. We then went on to Hahai to have a go at sea kayaking. All of the equipment was provided and our guide briefed us well on how to use it. Large waves crash down onto the shore along this part of the coast so the first challenge for Hilary and me, in our tandem kayak, was to pull together to drive our kayak through the waves and without us getting tossed into the sea. We managed it surprisingly well. Once the rest of our party had made it out beyond the crashing waves our guide led us along the coast, getting us to stay close together when telling us about the sights or giving us directions, until we all safely landed, through even rougher waves, at Cathedral Cove. By this time I was feeling queasy; I should have taken a travel sickness pill before starting out on this! The journey back, which included going around a rock farther out to sea, was torture; I was feeling rough with sea sickness throughout it all. The subsequent car journeys that day made me feel even worse. Eventually I crashed out at the B&B, unable to eat or do anything other than go to sleep and recover. Pathetic!
