Awoke feeling a little better and hoping that I would be well enough to make the ferry crossing from Wellington, on the southern tip of the North Island, to Picton, on the northern edge of the South Island. An early start today: up before 6:00 to be able to check in at the required time. Droping off the hired car was very easy and right next to the ferry terminal. Ferry crossing was a breeze. A nice calm day. Picton is someway inland and is approached by channels that are surrounded by mountains covered in dense forest. It was a delight to see so much unspoilt natural beauty. Picked up our next hire car at Picton and pleased to have been given an upgrade: a Toyota Prado. It's huge! Arrived at our B&B feeling feverish and keen to lie down. However the place we booked had been overrun by penguins and smelled very fishy! Fortunately the B&B was able to place us in a neighbouring house. So, I put myself to bed and dosed myself with paracetamol.
