After a 6 hour overnight bus journey, we arrived at the town of Chiquita at 5:30am Saturday morning. Then jumped on the ferry at 6am to take us to Isla Holbox, an island off the North coast of Quintana Roo state within the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
On arrival we randomly bumped into the hostel owner who showed us to our home for the next few days. We are staying in a really nice ´community´ of cabañas (little huts).
Our hut has a bed, 2 hammocks, a sand floor and is open to the breeze, where you would normally have windows, we have mosquito netting.
Mosquitoes are well known as a problem here and indeed they are, they love a good bit of human blood sucking. Emily appears to be highly recommended on the menu and is getting all the mosquito attention.
This place is super chilled; nice beaches nice bars and restaurants, sand roads and no cars (people get around on 4wd golf buggies.
On our arrival we were hit by a heavy rain shower with thunder and lightning which put us out of action for a few hours but as is common in this part of the world it cleared up quickly and the sun came out......then we were presented with a beautiful rainbow at sunset.
After that, you get in the hammocks and chill out the Holbox way........nice
