After some sightseeing at Woomera last night we got up early and left for Coober Pedy. Woomera was interesting, a town revue loving around the defence force with a population of about 120. Not much happening there now, but in the 60,s this place would have been buzzing. The rockets on display are quite confronting, and hard to believe that Australia was once a leader in nuclear research particularly from this place.
A pretty straightforward drive today around 400 km. the kids started the stopwatch today to time us when we said it would be 4 hrs in the car. Talk about holding you to your word!
Coober Pedy hasn't changed much in 25 yrs from when I was here with mum and dad. The aboriginal population walking the streets are a little intimidating still, and there is nothing green anywhere! The caravan park we are staying at closes it's gates at 2200hrs for the night. Kids have been great, and we will go exploring the underground world of Coober Pedy tomorrow !
Highlight of the day......the sunset tonight was absolutely amazing, even the kids commented. Will load some pics up tomorrow!
