New York Film Academy 17th day
Open Pre-Production Time
We had some time to work on the music film we're shooting this weekend. I still have no idea what I'm going to do. There were a couple of songs I would like to work on but they're pushing some boundaries especially in the US. On the other hand I've got a little story in my mind and images I would also like to use. But I still haven't figures it out and for me that's pretty extraordinary. Up until know I was so well prepared for all the shoots. This is kinda bugging me out!
Hands on Edting (Igor Torgeson)
Igor had some project that he was called away for so we had a substitute today. I forgot his name and I can't find the paper I wrote his name on. He was an odd kinda nerdy guys who liked to use "awesome" ad gang slang that sounded really lame coming from a a really white guy. He was a good teacher though. But I prefer Igor because I love his sense of humor. In the post lab we learned more about Final Cut pro and about editing in general. Like cutting on action and how you want the second of the two shots where the action is in shot at different angles cutting in a little "back in time". It's hard to explain but it made sense and looked really good. In these classes you all work with the same footage. In this case it's about how the "Believe" show in SeaWorld is set up and how the trainers work with the animals.
Director's craft #6 - Screen PW (Josh Adler)
Today we watched all the production workshops half of our class shot on the Universal Backlot. So the one in my previous post called "Shady" was being screened as well. And I noticed something in editing that Josh also noticed. And when he critiqued my film he said I thought I had a really really dirty mind. And let me try to explain if you hadn't noticed. The Girl in the vid opens her coat at a certain and the camera looks over her shoulder. The guy is appalled at first but then he gets interested in what the woman shows him. Basically it looks like he is being flashed by the girl. But what was the icing on the cake to Josh was the part at the end with the fish which he thought was a metaphor for,… Do I really need to explain? Anyway, when my crew mate told him that wasn't at all what I was going for Josh was confused. Overall he liked the work I did except for some camera placements and missed shots. He would have liked to see a CU of the girl etc. And he was right,… Mostly anyway ;)
