Found a hotel pretty quickly for $8/night. Its cute from the outside, paited pale green and has red lanterns hanging from each level. Wandered around the town in the afternoon. Its absolutley gorgeous. very heavy French influence in many places, this place amazingly didn't get bombed in the war so its as it was. There are hundreds of tailors! Sussed out a few prices and will go get measured up tomorrow, very excited! They will make anything and its very cheap. Went to Vinh Hung restaurant; Dan had Cao Lau, which is the local dish, made using water from Ba Le well. Its doughy flat noodles with croutons, bena sprouts and pork slices. It wa svery good. The croutons were made of pork fat! Above the restaurant is a hotel which is where Michael Caine stayed while filming 'The Quiet American'. It was a Chinese trading house originally. We went back to hotel early with a bottle of Vietnamese rhum - the stuff Dan had been drinking on the stall. (Less than 1 pound a bottle...)
