We headed to Mission Beach just for one night, mainly to have a little rest at this quiet resort and to check out the damage that was left behind from a massive cyclone that here about 6 weeks ago. Mission Beach is based right next to a rainforest, so it heralded the return of the dreaded mozzies and lots of bugs!! We had a gecko in our room when we went to bed, affectionately called 'Gary' by Dan! Being to scared to pick it up, we left him there on the ceiling, and when we awoke he had disappeared....so we got dressed and packed up, Dan put his jumper on, and out jumped Gary...he has snuggled in Dans hood for the night! Bless him!! The damage was quite sad, lots and lots of trees had been blown over, and some of it looked totally destroyed, some houses were having there roofs rebuilt after they had blown off!! No one was seriously hurt though, and it was just surface damage, and probably looked worse than it was. Nonetheless, we had a whole beach to ourselves the next day, (as tourists are kind of staying away from here still), so we had a nice peaceful day at the beach, before heading on to Cairns, our last main stop of OZ :( xx
