We were on a bit of a time limit today to get to Split so we were packed & on the road by 9am. This was my last day of driving on the right hand side so I was determined to enjoy it. Once again we stayed inland & enjoyed the beauty that Croatia has to offer. All too soon though we were arriving in Split & after much driving around in circles, eventually found our accommodation. I had organised with the owner to meet us there between 12-1pm as we had other plans. So of course we arrived at 12.45pm & kept pressing the button at various intervals over the next 15 mins, with no answer. At 1.05pm the hostel next door offered to call the owner. By this stage we were starting to run late. About 10 mins later we were let in & shown to the room, but not by the owner. She arrived about 15 mins after that as we were rushing out the door. We proceeded to give her a mouthful but she showed no remorse, not even offering an apology. She asked for the money & we told her we'd pay when we came back in the evening. She said that wouldn't do, we replied we didn't care, & then we were off. We had 20 mins to return our hire car then meet our friends at the tourist info centre. By this time I was getting pretty frustrated but we could only go as fast as we could, or rather our car could. We inputted the details in the gps & followed them, until it sent us down these narrow lanes culminating in trying to get us to drive down stairs. This final lane was so narrow that it required me to do a 70 point turn to get back the way were facing. To really add to my anger I scraped the back bumper against the wall. "Cuss"!! So we turned around & Jac then directed me with my phone, which got us to the car hire mob. Expecting them to say something about the scrape, I was about to have luck intervene. As the person inspecting the car was about to look at the corner he had a mate call out to him. He looked up, waved & kept going round the car, completely neglecting that corner. Score one for us! We then hurried down to meet our friends Mark, Nicole & their daughter Mackenzie, who we had first met in Avignon. We spent the rest of the day having lunch in Split before they drove us out to Trogir, a beautifully ancient village about 20 mins away. The whole afternoon was spent just enjoying it with lovely friends, recounting stories of life, travel & future endeavors. They returned us to Split about 9pm & we said our goodbyes. Being from Melbourne we know we will definately see them on their return. Thanks for a great day guys. Once back in Split we grabbed a feed at a recommended sandwhich bar then headed to our lodgings. We wanted to go & explore but we were both very exhausted, collapsing on the bed. We did force ourselves to get back up to head back out for a small explore. It was 10.30pm by this time, still 23 degs & people were everywhere. We wandered through the old town then along the promenade. It is another beautiful place that is very much alive, mostly with young people. It has a great feel & we could do with a few more days here. But we can't complain with what we are seeing. We have the day tomorrow to explore before boarding another bus for a nice 17 hours to Poland. Yep 17 hours.
