Today right after class I went to Winchester (south of Oxford about 1:15 hr). I heard about it from some people that went here over the weekend. The only things worth seeing here were the cathedral and Great Hall. The cathedral dates back to th 7th century of Kind Alfred's kingdom when Winchester was the capital of England. First it was a minister then in 1079 William the conquer ordered the building of the new cathedral in the Norman style and it became the longest in England. It was very impressive w/ the long nave, very detailed quire and Great Screen. Interestingly there was a Da Vinci Code exhibit that talked about the ideas that were addressed in the book and provided counter arguments for them. It was kind of weird to see this in a cathedral. The Great Hall was really cool, being the first of the decorative castle halls in England for Henry III, who was born in Winchester. It houses "King Arthur's Round Table" which actually was carbon tested and dates 6 centuries later than the proposed time of King Arthur. Nonetheless it's huge and really cool even if there is no real Round Table.
