Danny's Summer '06 Study Abroad
Today I went on another day trip w/ Shayna, this time to Stratford-Upon-Avon, the birthplace of Shakespeare. The only Shakespearean thing we did was go inside the exhibition and his birthplace. The exhibition was interesting, describing Shakespeare's life and family and the city of Stratford-Upon-Avon. The actual house had furnishings like they would have been during his time. We walked around to the other Shakespearean sites in the city but didn't go inside them. Then we went to Holy Trinity Church which houses Shakespeare and his family's tombs (I don't know why they are able to be buried in the church b/c he wasn't religious). We walked by the two big theatres, which are on the heart of the Avon River. Next to it were beautiful green areas and a cool canal w/ old locks. We rented a rowboat and had fun on it for 1/2 an hour, then ate in the grassy area. The city is really small and quaint and everything was dead by 5 pm, so we left around 7 to get back. Overall a wonderful day trip. I liked the town and river more than the actual Shakespearean stuff. Tomorrow I'm going on another day trip so look for another entry w/ the next few days.
