Danny's Summer '06 Study Abroad
Today after class Neela and I went to the Cotswolds to take a bike ride around the villages. It's only a 40 minute train ride north of Oxford. Two other groups had previously done this so we knew it was going to be fun. In the Cotswolds, a town's main street (High Street) had to be wide to accommodate for sheep and cattle marching to the market. Fields of yellow hay fill the region. Cotswold walls and roofs are made of local yellow limestone. An extremely strict building code keeps towns looking very quaint, so as we saw new homes being built, they still resembled the old style. We rode through 6 villages, which are literally one street and a group of homes. I think the coolest looking homes were the thatched roofed ones. The weather held up pretty well for us, it was sunny and cool in the beginning and a little rainy towards the end, but it was overall a nice scenic bike ride through the villages.
